\nShandong is home to many renowned pictorial stones. The “Wuliang Shrine” in Jiaxiang, “Xiaotangshan Shrine” in Changqing, and “Beizhai Pictorial Stone Tomb” in Lynyi are known not only in China but also over the world. These monuments, which preserve visual art and architectural structure, epitomize the artistic achievements of the Han dynasties. \nThe Han pictorial stones in Shandong are outstanding representation of the Han art in the field in China. With a strong national sense of simplicity and depth, they have found themselves in the ancient treasure of art of the world. The Han pictorial stones are architectural component of tombs, graveyard shrines and gate towers. People of the Han Dynasty, taking stone slabs as land and burns as pens, depicted life of all aspects, including funeral customs and religious belief, and as such the carved stones are tantamount to “pictorial epics of the Han history.”, the themes of which cover the ___ life, the heavenly world and natural phenomena, reflecting Han people’s world outlooks, their strong desires for a heavenly afterlife and one of the real world, expressing both the Confucianist and Taoist beliefs. The mean of the Han pictorial stones in Shandong Provincial Museum was mostly unearthed in Ji’nan, Jining, Zaozhuang and Linyi, which are the major areas for their ditstributions.
