\nThe Zhou gradually formed a state with its permanent resident in Zhouyuan from the tier of Houji in Tai (today’s Yangling District of Shaanxi province) and another ancestor Congliu from Bin(today\u2019s Xunyi County and Binxian county). In the 12th century BC, the Zhou began to prosper when Danfu moved to Zhouyuan during the reign of King Wuyi of the Shang. They built up a walled city with palaces inside.
