\nMany parts of Shaanxi were the battle fields of the war between the Wei and Shu when China was in the Three Kingdoms Period(220 ~ 280). Guanzhong plain in Central Shaanxi was occupied by Cao Cao from the Wei and Hanzhong in south Shaanxi was in the hand of Liu Bei from the Shu. Many historical sites and relics from this period are found in Qishan County and Hanzhong City in Shaanxi. In this period of time, five minority groups moved into the central part of China and established more than ten regimes which are known as “the Sixteen power”. After the Western Jin Dynasty, China entered into “The southern and Northern Dynasties”. For of the “Sixteen power” and two states of the “Southern and Northern Dynasties” established their capitals in Shaanxi. The culture created in this period featured unique minority characteristics. As one of the minorities living in the northwest China, Qiang people took the advantage of fighting chaos among the regional powers and rose in rebellion. But they were put down by Cao Cao. In order to pacify those rebels, Cao Cao and other rulers issued numerous honorable title to the competing minority leaders, and granted them seals. This 26-faced seal with 14 faces inscribed with names of official posts is owned by famous general. Dugu Xin in the Western Wei period. Each official title on the seal was used for a specific purpose. With such a unique design, this seal is a very precious evidence for the study of seal management of this time. \nSince the middle of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the government had times moving the ethnic groups from the border area to the inland by invitation or force for a better control and creating abundant supply for work force and the army. When China was in the Western Jin Dynasty, the majority Han nationality and other ethnic minorities lived together in the north, the east and the west of China, especially in the areas of Bingzhou and Guanzhong in central Shaanxi. This ethnic fusion laid a foundation for the formation of China, a country inhabited by many nationalities.
