The Book of Filial Piety, a conversation between Confucius and his student Zeng Shen, is about how to set up a good society using the principle of xiao (filial piety). The term can also be applied to general obedience, and is central to confucian role ethics. The stele is composed of four blocks of stone, on the top of which is engraved with cloud pattern in relief, on the lower part of which is the three-layered stone base with beautiful and dignified modeling. This stele was moved to the present site in the 2nd year of Yuanyou period in Northern Song Dynasty (1087). It is one of the earliest collections in the Forest of Steles.
